It looks like that the problem happens in the Windows version of Chrome (and 
Chromium) as well.
When I use a classic theme (in Windows 7, this means screen composition is 
disabled), the same problem occurs.
So it means that with the new layout, Chromium now expects a compositor. This 
is a very bad trend.
Not everyone use a DE, and you should not force everyone to use one.
