Package: usb-modeswitch
Version: 2.5.2+repack0-2
Severity: normal
In a mostly up-to-date "testing", but a past kernel 4.4, and running
"init", usb-modeswitch no longer creates the /dev/gsmmodem symlink when
a 3G mobile serial modem is plugged in. Instead it creates an ordinary
empty file there (and possibly /dev/gsmmodem2 sometimes).
With logging enabled, /var/log/usb_modeswitch_ttyUSB_1-5:1.5 contains
Return symlink name "gsmmodem" and exit
which I thought is normal and could suggest usb_modeswitch_dispatcher is
correctly reporting, so blame may lie elsewhere -- but I couldn't tell
where.
The actual mode switch is ok and can point ppp at /dev/ttyUSB4 or
whatever.
