Hi Jon, Jon Webster [2006-03-18 11:03 -0500]: > Whoops! That line should have read '/var/lib/postgresql', my mistake. > > I scanned the previous email and didn't read that as a splling rror, and > assumed we were still talking about /var/lib/postgres.
Ah, so this was just a typo in the email (I assumed it was a cut&paste). > So, in closing, we've concluded this home directory problem is caused by > not upgrading postgresql/stable to postgresql/unstable before installing > postgresql-8.1. Bypassing the transitional package leaves the original > /etc/passwd entry intact, with the old(wrong) home directory. Right. So, well, I don't really consider that a bug now, do you? A normal Sarge->Etch dist-upgrade will care for the transition, and if people bypass the dist-upgrade and upgrade their system manually, there will be many more problems anyway. I'm open to suggestions how to improve that, though. :) Thanks, Martin -- Martin Pitt http://www.piware.de Ubuntu Developer http://www.ubuntu.com Debian Developer http://www.debian.org In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?
