I had similar problems some years ago, but I forget the details. I assume this is not specific to guvcview since cheese has similar problems. vlc does not seem to find the (built-in) webcam. I tried modprobe'ing some likely video drivers including uvcvideo without success. ------------------------------------------------------ -- System Information: Debian Release: buster/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.19.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_GB:en (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages guvcview depends on: ii libatk1.0-0 2.30.0-2 ii libc6 2.28-6 ii libcairo-gobject2 1.16.0-2 ii libcairo2 1.16.0-2 ii libgcc1 1:8.2.0-20 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.38.0+dfsg-7 ii libglib2.0-0 2.58.3-1 ii libgtk-3-0 3.24.5-1 ii libguvcview-2.0-2 2.0.6+debian-1 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.42.4-6 ii libpangocairo-1.0-0 1.42.4-6 ii libstdc++6 8.2.0-20 Versions of packages guvcview recommends: ii uvcdynctrl 0.2.4-1.1+b2 guvcview suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
