I've experienced performance issues when using neovim, particularly when using the plugin airline (https://github.com/vim-airline/vim-airline/). Looking at other performance issues with neovim (eg https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/7063) made me realize a common pattern was that it was often built in cmake configuration RelWithDebInfo, which passes the -Og flag as its last optimization flag.
