I had a further look at google and found the information, that ghostscript recently [1] removed some non-standard extensions, unless option -nosafe is used. I'm not sure, when this happened, b/c my gs 9.20 in Debian stable fails to process this file too. Work around is described on [1] too. Also this function is still mentioned on [2]. The issue in asy is still in 2.47 (probably) and needs to be forwarded.
