today I installed reportbug on another machine which will be using a smarthost to send bug reports. debconf asked me whether an MTA was installed and I said no. It then offered me to enter the name of a smarthost. What it did not ask for and what will also be necessary in most cases was the user and password for that smarthost. I think it would be a good idea to ask for that information as well if the user entered a smarthost. Otherwise their system might not be usable.
