But then, as long as it is kept in Debian, it should be fixed to
preserve backward compatibility, at least not yield breakage of
the user session.

Unset XDG_RUNTIME_DIR as it is obviously wrong after su, and yields
breakage of the user session (there were no issues in the past as
it didn't exist).
