Package: virtualbox-ext-pack
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

thank you for maintaining virtual-ext-pack in Debian.

I have a few suggestions on how to improve the user experience but
before sending patches, I would like to ask your opinon on it.

files that get downloaded should be placed in /var (I suggest
/var/cache/virtualbox-ext-pack) rather than the current
/usr/share/virtualbox-ext-pack. IIRC debian's /usr is (still) supposed
to be usable read-only.

even better would be if the package would only download to /var/cache if
the correct file is not present in /usr/share already. that way, on
systems with a shared read-only /usr (such as netbooted live systems),
the sysadmin can deploy the file presistently "pre-downloaded" in
/usr/share (and have users "install" it in demand by accepting the
license prior use).

would you accept a patch(es) to..

  .. move from /usr/share/virtualbox-ext-pack to
     /var/cache/virtualbox-ext-pack?

.. give precedence and use files in /usr/share/virtualbox-ext-pack
     over /var/cache/virtualbox-ext-pack?

Regards,
Daniel
