Package: mysql-dfsg-5.0 Severity: normal The changelog for 5.0.8-18 refers to NEWS.Debian, but no news was displayed by apt-listchanges, and I can't find the NEWS file in the installed packages.
I suspect the problem is that the NEWS file is associated with only some of the binary packages. In particular, my install held mysql-client and mysql-server at their previous version while upgrading libmysqlclient15 and mysql-common. I believe that in this case the NEWS file will never be displayed by apt-listchanges, since when the other packages are upgraded apt-listchanges will detect that it has already listed the changelog. I think I've seen this problem with another package. The solution there was to put the NEWS.Debian file in each package. Now that I only have some of the packages upgraded, I can see there are some advantages to this approach: since every package has the changelog, it's nice to be able to refer to the files it mentions. The disadvantage is that the NEWS ends up with binary packages for which it is not so relevant. See bug 344947 for further information on this topic. Regardless of whether this speculation is correct, the changelog refers to a file that doesn't seem to be available, and the NEWS is not displayed on upgrade. I am assuming that you want the NEWS.Debian to be displayed prominently on upgrade. If not, some other kind of solution might be appropriate.
