Hmm, you did some good research on this bug.

I'm a little confused by the fact that there's no button release when
you click.  Seems to me that a click should involve a button-down
event followed by a button-release event.  But I know it's not always
that simple.

Anyway, I'll pass this along to upstream and see what they say.
