Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'd like to request the removal of the source package scapy3k from
unstable. This forms part of a transition plan to build Python 3 binary
packages from the src:scapy package.

Bugs #889939 and #889938 have some of the story on this.

I understand that some users may have built tools using functionality
that is not present in secdev/scapy's codebase, but there are no tools
that I have seen in Debian (as packaged in the archive, currently in
unstable) that depend on such functionality.

At a later time, should scapy3k be renamed or should there be a general
consensus that it's a good thing to do regardless, scapy3k will be
reintroduced to Debian and I volunteer now to do that packaging work.

If you'd like to read more of the story behind this, see the following
GitHub issues:

  https://github.com/secdev/scapy/issues/657
  https://github.com/phaethon/scapy/issues/231

Thanks,
Iain.
