Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

the tarball created by deluser's --backup option supports the gzip and
bzip2 compressions only. In general, the xz compression provides much
better compression rates, at the price of significant longer compression
time though. That should be acceptable for archiving purposes like this
one. So long story short, please add support for more compression
methods.

Just adding xz is trival, however I'd take the opportunity to give the
user more control about the preferred compression. One approach was to
support tar's --auto-compress option by some means, and if the user for
example provides "--backup-to file.lz", the lzip compression will be
used.

Regards,

    Christoph
