It currently takes piupars a few seconds to unpack a pre-generated tarball (whether from pbuilder, option -p, or created with option -s) to create a chroot. It then takes up to tens of times longer than that to actually install and remove packages. Thus, I don't see where the speedup comes from. However, I admit total ignorance of how LVM snapshots and such work.
