Great, this helps.

For copy-paste-convenience of others, this helped on my debian 9 system:

sudo apt install poppler-utils=0.48.0-2 libpoppler-qt4-4=0.48.0-2
libpoppler-qt5-1=0.48.0-2 libpoppler-cpp0v5=0.48.0-2
libpoppler-glib8=0.48.0-2 libpoppler64=0.48.0-2

This is tolerable for some time.

This seemed like more effort, and because the other workaround worked, I
did not try it.
