Upstream is still working on the problem noted in bug #344046 and it still remains in gcc-4.1 as well.
I was wondering if you would mind if I binNMU make on m68k in the meantime. I have a working package where the only difference is that variable.c is compiled -O1. I'll be happy to be responsible for any m68k problems I cause with this. The reason I bring this up is that several packages seem to need the new make either explicitly like vim or implicitly like e2fsprogs and now it's holding us (m68k) up.
