Either way is fine. If you think a new release is sensible - just do it as upstream. You can subscribe to single packages here: https://packages.qa.debian.org/common/index.html Alternatively you can subscribe the Debian Med maintainers list https://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/debian-med-packaging and get notification about all packages maintained by the Debian Med team which could be interesting but might be a bit noisy for your taste.
