Thanks for this suggestion.  I agree that there is a real problem here
which ought to be fixed.

I'm not sure whether your proposed feature is the right answer, or
whether this should really be part of dgit, or maybe some other tool.

I think this needs further thought.  In the meantime the dgit bug list
is a perfectly fine place to have this todo list item.
