It looks as though wayland is simply unsupported in pasystray. I've tested it under Gnome with X (the default for stretch), and the bug does not manifest. For that reason I'm downgrading the severity to important. I've forwarded the details of this bug and the request for wayland support on to upstream. -- Regards, Scott.
