Honestly, my solution is "get a Mac". Desktop Linux is just terrible.

If you turn off all graphics acceleration, it will probably work fine. But be 
slow. Because whatever version of whatever software you have does not support 
whatever particular version of hardware you have installed.

Regardless, it's not something I can fix, or work around. XScreenSaver is 
working according to the specifications. The problem is on the other end.
