I cannot reproduce the problem in a test VM using the fileio backend. I followed the same steps you did and the problem did not appear for me. Could you help me narrow this problem down a bit more? Does this occur only with very large devices (the ones you want to add are 2 TiB in size)? Or is the size of the device added irrelevant? Does this also occur for disk images (fileio backstore)?
