I am not able to use the lua-http interface.
When i start vlc with it i get the message:
[http] lua interface error: Error loading script
/usr/lib/vlc/lua/intf/http.luac: lua/intf/http.lua:301: attempt to index local
's' (a nil value)
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=137842
describes the same problem for Ubuntu and suggests a packaging bug.
I cannot reproduce the issue with the current version of vlc available in jessie
and unstable. I would ask for more info, but then I wouldn't know where to
start. The version mentioned in the forum post is not anything like the version
provided in Debian respectivelly Ubuntu.

Hmm. Sorry for that.

I got this error message in the console and on connect i get only this response:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ascii" ?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml10/DTD/xhtml10strict.dtd";>
<html lang="en">

<title>Client error</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>404 Client error (/)</h1>
<hr />
<a href="http://www.videolan.org";>VideoLAN</a>
</body>
</html>

I am not sure how to give you more information.
