Package: postfix Version: 2.2.8-9 Severity: normal I already noticed this with prior versions, but didn't have much time at hand and thought someone else would report it if I didn't.
If postfix is running, and aptitude upgrade (or any other operation replacing the current package) is run, dpkg fails with the following error messages: ----------------------------------------------- Setting up postfix (2.2.8-9) ... Postfix configuration was not changed. If you need to make changes, edit /etc/postfix/main.cf (and others) as needed. To view Postfix configuration values, see postconf(1). After modifying main.cf, be sure to run '/etc/init.d/postfix reload'. Running newaliases Starting Postfix Mail Transport Agent: postfixpostfix/postfix-script: fatal: the Postfix mail system is already running failed! invoke-rc.d: initscript postfix, action "start" failed. dpkg: error processing postfix (--configure): ----------------------------------------------- This error shows that there are two different problems with postfix in my opinion: 1) You should call "restart" after upgrade, not start. 2) The postfix init script should return 0 if the start operation was requested while the program already runs. This is required for LSB conformance. regards, Sven PS: System Information isn't completely right (I don't know where it gets the "3.1" from). -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.11.12-incase Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
