Hi! avahi-daemon is definitely not fucking your network configuration up. How do I know this? It doesn't even have priviliges to do that! It is run as user "avahi" and inside a chroot, so there is no way to fuck up your network configuration (unless you use avahi-dnsconfd, which you apparently don't). Unless, of course, there's a bug in your dhcp client or the kernel you're using. In which case you should file bugs against those packages!
So, shut up and do your homework before raising random accusations against avahi! Besides that, avahi-daemon is not even a hard dependency of libgnomevfs! if you don't like it, don't install it!
