Thanks for your help. I installed the same firefox on another computer, without the kwallet plugin. There are at least some sites that autofill username and passwords without the kwallet plugin, but don't work with the plugin. For example, https://www.powells.com/login . I can confirm that on both machines (the kwallet machine and the non-kwallet machine), I have a stored username/password that can be viewed on the preferences screen. They autofill on the non-kwallet machine. They do not autofill on the kwallet machine.
