Never assume that something is easy to reproduce.  When a bug is not
fixed, it means the maintainer doesn't have it :)

Can you estimate much "too long" it is?  1s? 0.1s? less?  On my box I
don't really see much difference between espeak and espeak-ng.  Do you
have the pulseaudio package installed?
