Could you please try building the package in a single-CPU Virtual
Machine having this:
$ENV{'DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS'} = 'parallel=1';
in .sbuildrc?
(Yes, maybe I should describe my building environment more accurately
from the beginning, not just when it is relevant).
