I applied my patches to the vlc 2.2.2-5 package in ubuntu 16.04 LTS, and have been using the patched build for the past couple months with no trouble. Looks like success to me.
Comments on the upstream bug report are dismissive of vlc 2.x users. It would be a shame for us to be stuck with broken audio for the next few years. What must be done to have my patches added to debian's vlc package?
