Indeed, I created a brand new user account whose home is in local filesystem and file open dialog opens just fine. There must be some KDE part that does not like nfs. I'm currently using xfce4 so I don't know where reference to KDE library comes from ; Anyway, I've always had number of KDE widgets available in designer-qt4 in addition to normal Qt widgets. -- Antti
