Uh, I thought your bug was entirely about cosmetic issues and would
not actually stop you from upgrading.

I don't really think that the templates are overly ambiguous, but they
indeed might be confusing to non-technical users (who don't know what
"symlinks" or "purge" means). Well, for unexperienced users the
debconf priority "high" is probably adequate anyway (so that normal
questions are not shown and just their defaults are taken).

Anyway, this will not be an issue forever in any case. I'm currently
working on a completely new packaging and installation structure which
avoids all these upgrading troubles and also all debconf questions.
However, this is nothing for Sarge, so if this is really an issue, I
can trim down the templates a bit.

Yes, that's what I usually do for testing upgrades. However, I don't
use a chroot since that caused some trouble for me. I just install
woody's PostgreSQL on sid (works fine), install a db there and upgrade
to the sid version.
