I am the maintainer of a java called freeplane [1], which has an icon with transparent edges. However, in current Debian unstable, the edges are no longer transparent in GNOME3's left icon panel. See the green icon in the attached screen shot. /usr/share/applications/freeplane.desktop looks like: [Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Name=Freeplane Exec=/usr/bin/freeplane %F Terminal=false Icon=freeplane Type=Application MimeType=application/x-freeplane; Categories=Office; GenericName=Freeplane Comment=A free tool to structure and organise your information with mind mapping Keywords=Mindmaps; Knowledge management; Organize information; Brainstorming; ...; freeplane installs these icons: /usr/share/freeplane/freeplane.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/freeplane.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/freeplane.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/freeplane.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/64x64/apps/freeplane.png /usr/share/pixmaps/freeplane.png All of these show up with transparency in eog. Additionally, these SVGs are installed (which are used to generate the above pngs at build time): /usr/share/freeplane/freeplane.svg /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/freeplane.svg Of course I am not sure that the issue is not on my side, but the xdg-users told be to report the problem here (and I have verified that the installed icons include transparency), so do you have an idea about what could go wrong?
