Hi Dominic,

I disagree that a build trying to write to $HOME is OK: I've filed bugs
for this for a long time, and no other packages in the archive do that
currently AFAIK.

So, I'm bumping severity to serious. An easy workaround is usually to
create a temporary homedir in /tmp and set $HOME to that.
