Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'm the maintainer of the wwwstat package - a Perl tool for analyzing
webserver logfiles and creating summary HTML pages.

When I was nearly done with an update that refreshed the Debian packaging
of wwwstat (https://gitlab.com/wwwstat/wwwstat-pkg/commits/master),
I actually stopped to think what I was doing and realized that there is
no real need for this. The upstream webpages and download location for
wwwstat have disappeared, there are no traces of the tool being actively
maintained anywhere else, and I don't think that anyone is actually
using it - there have been much better logfile analysis tools for ages.

Of course, with a dead upstream, there was always the option for me to
take over this, too, as I've done with ethstats, hexer, libdebug, prips,
and tina, but in this case I don't think it's worth it. Well, if it
suddenly turns out that somebody on the FTP Master team is actually
using wwwstat, I would be greatly surprised and might be willing to take
over upstream maintenance :)

So, yeah, thanks for reading this far, I guess, and please remove
wwwstat from unstable.

G'luck,
Peter
