Package: mozilla-thunderbird
Version: 1.0.2-2.sarge1.0.7

Architecture: powerpc
Kernel: 2.6.12-1-powerpc
Libc: libc-2.3.5.so

Version 1.0.7-3 produces the same thing.

Running debian unstable powerpc here on a mac.
Thunderbird began one month ago to forget the Threaded view for some big
local folders (around 30k messages), and rebuilds the summary each time
I access to the folder. Compacting or even deleting indexes didn't solve
the thing.
Each time I launch TB, it complains for a corrupted address book and
moves it to abook.mab.bak. I could restore it some times by deleting
binary codes appearing at the end of the file.
Here is an example of "corrupted mail":

I downgraded from 1.0.7-3 to 1.0.2-2, but the same behaviour continues.
And no, the disk isn't dying, at least smartctl cannot see it.
