Package: mlterm Version: 3.3.8-2 Severity: important Dear Maintainer,
Looking for a terminal that correctly displays bidirectional texts I tried this so-called Multi-lingual Terminal. Unfortunately, the set of characters that can actually be displayed is much less multi-lingual than that displayed by, e.g., MATE Terminal. Once you have, after going through lots of tests, found a suitable font to use, e.g. FreeMono, Hebrew, and probably Arabic, text parts are displayed correctly, i.e. right to left, in an otherwise left-to-right text, but lots of other important characters are missing, for example: - boxed Latin letters - circled Latin letters like ⓤ 24e4 - ☠ 2620; ☪ 262a; ☭ 262d - ⚡ 26a1 - 26aa to 26af: ⚪⚫⚬⚭⚮⚯ - ✄ 2704; ❇ 2747; ❤ 2764 - ✂ 2702; ✄ 2704; ✓ 2713; ✔ 2714 - characters needed for: Dhivehi, Nepali, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, Amharic, Inuktitut, Cree, Chinese, Japanese, Korean All of these characters are displayed by MATE Terminal, but only left to right. Here is my ~/.inputrc − setting it up this way has not changed anything: set convert-meta off set output-meta on set input-meta on My locale is identical to en_IE.UTF-8 except for the date and time formats. -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.4 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-686-pae (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_AX.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AX.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages mlterm depends on: ii libc6 2.19-18+deb8u4 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.31.1-2+deb8u4 ii libglib2.0-0 2.42.1-1+b1 ii libx11-6 2:1.6.2-3 ii mlterm-common 3.3.8-2 Versions of packages mlterm recommends: ii mlterm-tools 3.3.8-2 Versions of packages mlterm suggests: ii fonts-arphic-bsmi00lp 2.10-14 ii fonts-arphic-gbsn00lp 2.11-13 ii fonts-freefont-ttf 20120503-4 ii fonts-nanum 20140930-1 ii fonts-vlgothic [fonts-japanese-gothic] 20140801-1 pn mlterm-im-m17nlib <none> pn mlterm-im-scim <none> pn mlterm-im-uim <none> ii t1-cyrillic 4.16+nmu1 ii unifont 1:7.0.06-1 ii xfonts-efont-unicode 0.4.2-6 -- no debconf information
