I think that `run-mailcap` is functionning correctly: since there is no entry for `inode/directory`, it exits with the error message that you quoted. Then `xdg-open` apparently falls back to iceweasel. But if you would call `run-mailcap directly`, you would only have the error message. Are you expecting something different from `run-mailcap` ?
