Hm, the only cases I've seen where users have started long running processes via /etc/rc.local, they did so via foo & After all, /etc/init.d/rc.local does not forcefully background the script, so it would have been a "hanging" service also under SysV -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
