Hi! I use the propriatary nvidia driver on my laptop (because I need the external vga capatibilities). My video card is gf4 420 Go 32M.

I have additionally to this kernel the nvidia and ndiswrapper module (and suspend2 module). Hope this help something. However it would be good to have an instruction how to self build a complex package like gtk (since it is splitted into many packages), so I can test the most recent version of gtk cvs, and test the most recent version of branche 2.6 (where it was working), and find the oldest 2.8 version and compare it each-by-each. Maybe I find the diff what its broken. I assume it would be a good idea to up the severity of the bug? There aren't many of us affected, true, but for those that are affected it's a very critical bug, it makes using anything GTK almost impossible.
