I think I've found a clue:
update-binfmts: warning: Couldn't load the binfmt_misc module.
`ckbuilder` is really a .jar file which is executable thanks to "jarwrapper":
Jarwrapper sets up binfmt-misc to run executable jar files
using the installed java runtime.
For some reason this does not work on build servers... :(
