I guess I'm confused because my tests validate exactly what you said
in your original message:

"Can you ensure that the other C++ dependencies, notably QuantLib and
Rcpp with Build-Depends: r-cran-rcpp (>= 0.11.0), libquantlib0-dev (>=
1.7), are built under the same compiler?"

When I built everything with the same compiler (GCC 6), it worked.
When the C++ dependencies (rcpp and quantlib) were built with a
different compiler it fails.
