Package: iceweasel Version: 38.5.0esr-1~deb8u2 Followup-For: Bug #698637 I seem to have bumped into the same issue, running Iceweasel 38.5.0 on Debian stable (Jessie) with Xfce on i386. Specifically, the freeze regularly happens when browsing the LibreOffice official blog (http://blog.documentfoundation.org/). So far I have not found this issue on other web-sites.
Usually this bug does not emerge immediately when opening the web-site and you may be able to read a post, but you won't probably get far. The bug typically bites when navigating to a new page within the blog, which causes a jump in the CPU usage, but it can also happen when just scrolling the front page. When the bug bites, the system becomes completely unresponsive: the CPU usage monitor on the Xfce panel freezes, the mouse and keyboard stop responding, and even "Alt- SysRq-k" or "Alt-SysRq-b" key combinations have no effect. To get the system back up and running, the computer needs to be manually reset or powered off and on again. The issue does not emerge when using the Chromium browser. I suppose the fundamental problem may lie on a deeper level in the system, but it is triggered when a specific web-site is being browsed with Iceweasel.
