Ah, you should specify the right path to where you put the ifupdown
0.8.6~1 package I sent you in the email ;). So:
dpkg -B -i /var/cache/apt/archives/*228-3* /path/to/ifupdown_0.8.6~1_i386.deb
Can you try that command again?
