I'm afraid that I no longer recall how I ended up with these chroots, I think it very likely I just used sbuild-createchroot in the normal way. I have a vague recollection of working around this issue at the time by, I think, removing the /dev/shm symlink in my chroots. Looking in a few of them I see that /dev/shm is a directory in them for me now, and it is a directory in a freshly created chroot as well. I'm inclined to suggest it has either been fixed in the interim or was a transient issue with some package within the chroot (which was making /dev/shm a symlink) which has gone now. IOW I reckon this can be closed and I'll reopen/refile if I come across it again next time I have cause to create some fresh chroots. Ian.
