The 0.6 series adds support for Socket.IO 1.x, which is needed at least for packaging the RIPE Atlas Python libraries (see #807934). Would it be possible to update to the latest upstream version? Also, In case you decide to update socketio-client, please consider enabling Python3 support as well. If you lack the time to do so or need any assistance, I would be glad to help.
