please take a look at the messeages inside a terminal while you start Icedove from there. There are some possibilities to expand the output of Icedove. https://wiki.debian.org/Icedove#Debugging_Icedove_Activity I have tested the 42.0~b1 in various constellations before the upload and didn't had any bad experience so we have to figure out what's causing this behavior. Above you wrote you did a clean fresh new install, online later you wrote you have installed the version from experimental over the versionf from unstable, this is a little bit contrariwise.
