module-assistant auto-install nvidia
fails asking me to check a log that does not exist (View / Continue / Stop).
However, this seems to be due to the fact that Sarge no longer has a version of nvidia-kernel-source, maybe because of the problem described in bug #267799
So m-a can't download sources and compile module on his own (At least, that's what I understood). I had of course ran m-a prepare, which succeeded.
Package versions follow :
Package: module-assistant Version: 0.7.2
Package: nvidia-kernel-source Version: 1.0.6629+1-1 (note : I grabbed this one from the unstable repository when I decided to compile the module by hand)
Package: nvidia-kernel-2.6.8-1-386 Version: 1.0.6629+1-1
Package: nvidia-kernel-common Version: 1.0.6629+1
Package: nvidia-glx Version: 1.0.6629+1-1
Using Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 (Sarge / Testing) , kernel 2.6.8-1-386 , libc6 Version: 2.3.2.ds1-20
