Hi, the -D option of squid makes it skip initial dns availability tests. Those are made to ensure that DNS is there, but can cause issues in setups that don't have a continously available name server.
This is not related with internal-dns, which disable build and usage of an external helper for DNS resolution and use the internal, non-blocking routines. (see bug #184208 for details). In addition you can redifine SQUID_ARGS in /etc/default/squid and remove it yourself. Would you still suggest '-D' removed from /etc/init.d/squid?
