As you rightly point out, the current code will never manage files larger than 4GB, so the proposed patch is "bread for today, hunger for tomorrow". The real code that should be tested is in unzip 6.0, which is in beta. For your benefit, I have prepared a do-it-yourself kit to have a debian package for unzip 6.0c (beta version).
