sorry for the delay. Due to being on holidays, I didn't have access to
a Jessie desktop system when you reported that.

While I get similar warnings, Conkeror starts up nevertheless.

I thought so, too, but it works for me with iceweasel
38.2.1esr-1~deb8u1. (there was one more update shortly after
38.2.0esr-1~deb8u1.)
Now that I can't reproduce this, maybe it helps if you delete the
whole browser cache of conkeror. I had it in the past once or twice
that I had to delete the browser's cache to make it work again after
an iceweasel major update. Does that help for you, too?
