The kernel has renamed overlayfs to overlay while it was still out-of-tree. It somehow expected distributions to keep both names for backwards compatibility with existing software relying on it, but debian has decided not to. See https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=797601 lxc supports the new "overlay" name since 1.1.1. In lxc 1.0.7 (current debian/unstable version), it doesn't work though. It means this fails: $ lxc-clone -s -B overlayfs -o foo -n bar This will *not* be fixed in 1.0.8 either in the upstream version. Is it possible to include this patch for debian's 1.0.8 release of lxc? https://github.com/lxc/lxc/commit/38b34913fad2a4bcc842c2c377c0cb7bb90abe0f This would make possible to use overlayfs for lxc-clone.
